Do you know your Amazing Neighbors?
They’re the people who lift us up when we least expect it.
They advocate for those who can’t speak up for themselves.
They put out fires, feed the hungry, teach the young, and care for those experiencing homelessness.
They are our community heroes, and Pamplin Media Group is shining a light on some of the many Amazing Neighbors in the communities we serve.
During the last couple of years, we heard so many inspiring stories about how people were helping their neighbors cope with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, as we begin transitioning back to some level of pre-pandemic normalcy, other stories have started to surface — stories about people who not only help but advocate for their neighbors and their communities.
Consider Coua Xiong, whose parents were born in Laos and grew up in refugee camps before coming to America. Born in Wisconsin, Coua moved to Oregon, graduated from the University of Oregon, and is now an advocate for APANO, the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon.
Or Kit Lorelied of Tualatin, who worked tirelessly to find funding for a new makerspace at the Tualatin Public Library.
Then there’s the story of Brandi Johnson, the director of LoveOne, a group that organizes volunteers and creates service programs across Clackamas County to advocate for low-income and homeless individuals who need assistance. In addition to providing meals, personal care products, and access to community connections, Johnson started a shower cart after seeing an increase in health issues related to a lack of access to hygiene-related services.
These are just some highlights of some of the best people among us that have kept our communities safe, interesting and livable. Because of that, Pamplin Media Group is taking a moment to honor our best with its 2022 Amazing Neighbors special section, which is being distributed this week in more than 20 papers printed and distributed by Pamplin Media Group.
These stories — more than 20 in all — continue throughout the section, each highlighting people from one of the many communities served by Pamplin Media Group newspapers.
These sections aren’t possible without the generous support of our sponsors and advertisers.
As you read these stories, please consider supporting the businesses advertised in this section. Without their support, we wouldn’t be able to acknowledge the accomplishments of our community heroes.
After reading these stories, we hope they inspire you to find and thank some of your Amazing Neighbors or become an Amazing Neighbor yourself.
